Obituary of Irvine Morris Mitchell

Irvine Morris Mitchell of Saint John, husband of Marjorie (Campbell) Mitchell, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Penniac, he was a son of the late William M. and Hildred (Savage) Mitchell. Irvine was formerly employed both with Canada Post and Canada Customs in Fredericton, retiring in 1988. A Veteran of World War II, Irvine served in England with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a wireless operator. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Saint John, and was the bass singer for the original Gospelaires. In addition to his wife, Irvine is survived by a daughter, Anita Sergeant (Brian) of Bear Island; a son, Blaine Mitchell of Toronto; grandchildren Dawn Steeves, Ben Steeves, and Nathan Sergeant; great grandchildren Ceilidh, Gwyn, and Erin Boudreault, and Aadia Steeves; brothers Millard Mitchell (Marion) of Fredericton, Warren Mitchell of Fredericton, Merville Mitchell (Gail) of Fredericton; sisters Mae Johnson (Don) of Marysville, Helen Riley (Pat) of Douglas, Faith LaPointe (Bill) of Fredericton, and Shirley Saunders (George) of Marysville; and several nieces and nephews. Irvine was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Wilcox) Mitchell; sisters Gertrude Davidson and Geraldine Crawford; and by brothers William (Billy), Dale, and Murray Mitchell. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM from Cornerstone Baptist Church, Leinster Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery, Fredericton.
