Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Murray

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Barry) Murray of Saint John passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 01, 2010 at the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, finally released from life’s struggles. Born at St. John’s, NL on May 23, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Joseph and Susan (Picco) Vicars. Betty was formerly employed with Keddy’s and with Kennebec Manor, where she worked as a Nurses Aid for 21 years. She enjoyed bingo, sewing, fishing, and more recently watching golf and hockey. Betty is survived by her children, Ron Barry (Desiré) of Lower Kars, Paul Barry (Dorothy) of Upper Golden Grove, Betty Doyle (Bob) of Smithtown, Kim Barry (Doug Hovey) of Saint John, and Patricia Barry of Saint John; sons-in-law Robert Cormier of Saint John and Norbert Richard of St. Charles; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Barry of Saint John; brothers James Vicars of Halifax, Bill Vicars (Barb), David Vicars (Alice), and Brian Vicars (Mary), all of Saint John; a sister, Maureen Creamer (Gordon) of Saint John; a sister-in-law, Jean Vicars of Saint John; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her first husband, Patrick F. Barry; her second husband, Ronald D. Murray; daughters Dawn Marie Cormier and Elaine Richard; and by a son, John Barry and a brother Cecil. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
