Obituary of Stewart Douglas McElman

The death of Stewart McElman of Saint John, husband of Ida (Armstrong) McElman, occurred on September, 30, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Majorville, NB on March 1, 1926, he was a son of the late Elwood and Generva (McCoy) Stewart was a stationary engineer for many years, becoming the Maintenance Supervisor retiring from the Saint John Regional Hospital in 1992. Stewart was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64. Survived by his wife Ida, of 60 years; his daughter, Lorena Robertson (Brian) of Rothesay; granddaughter, Hillary Robertson of Waterloo, ON; brothers, Royce (Fern) of High River, AB and John (Ruth) of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Shirley Briggs (Lorne) of Minto, NB and Willa Briggs (Fred) of Dartmouth, NS; a very special niece, Helena Bennett, and numerous nieces and nephews. Stewart was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and Eldon. At Stewart’s request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424 with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 1:30 PM. Interment to take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of The Saint John Regional Hospital SICU for their excellent service, compassion and care for Stewart over the past few weeks.
