Obituary of Geraldine Marie Steeves

Geraldine “Gerry” Marie Steeves of Saint John, wife of the late Donald L. Steeves, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Kennebec Manor. Born at Petit Rocher, New Brunswick on December 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Catherine (Arseneau) Doucet. Gerry came to Saint John in the mid 1950’s and worked as a French translator at the D.V.A. Hospital in Lancaster. She loved to dance and play TV Bingo, was an excellent cook, and got great enjoyment from spending time and playing cards with her grandchildren. Gerry is survived by her children, Donald Steeves (Darlene Parsons) of Corner Brook, NL, Olive Steeves-Babineau (John-Allan) of Saint John, Catherine Wilson (Brian) of Saint John, Theresa Rogers (Robert) of Saint John, Mark Steeves (Kathy Burrell) of Saint John, and Sherry Lawless (Scott Nesbitt) of Quispamsis; a son-in-law, James Montplaisir of Charlo; grandchildren Renée-Nicole Steeves, Samantha Steeves, Chelsea Steeves-Babineau, Daryl Northrup, Amanda Steeves, Samantha Wilson, Joshua Steeves, Sarabeth Rogers, Anna Rogers, Thomas Rogers, Caitlind Harkiolakis, Jordan Nesbitt, and Jennica-Brooke Nesbitt; two great grandchildren, Madison and Makayla Northrup; a brother-in-law, George O’Keefe of Fredericton Junction; sister-in-law Stella Doucet of Saint John; a very special sister-in-law Joanne Doucet of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gerry was predeceased by her daughter, Jocelyn Steeves on May 16, 2010; siblings Leo Doucet, Rosemary Doucet, Margaret Chaisson, Gerard Doucet, Arthur Doucet, Joseph Doucet, Jacqueline O’Keefe, and Regis Doucet; and by a special friend, Douglas Miller. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Kennebec Manor Bus Fund would be appreciated by the family.
