Obituary of Gordon Elliott McCauley

The death of Gordon Elliott McCauley of Quispamsis, NB, husband of Constance (Russell) McCauley, occurred on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on July 17, 1925, he was a son of the late William and Jennie McCauley. Gordon was a veteran of World War II, following in his brother Bill’s footsteps, he enlisted in the RCAF in 1943. Gordon trained on a Lancaster Bomber and was discharged with the rank of LAC. In 1946, he moved to Edmonton where he was employed with Edmonton Transit. Gordon returned to Saint John in 1950 and became a salesman at J. Clark & Son Limited for many years. In 1962 he was the Used Car Manager at Downey Ford and in 1972, he became the General Sales Manager for Island Ford Sales in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He then returned to Saint John and was employed at Parkway Mercury in 1975 until his retirement in 2002. Gordon was known as the Silver Fox of the Auto Industry for his fifty-two years of dedicated service in the business. Gordon was a member of St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church on Douglas Avenue, where he was an Elder. He then became a member of Central Norton United Baptist Church, where he was part of the music ministry. He sang in the choir and was a frequent soloist. He had a true love of music and singing. Gordon was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, Lodge of Perfection. Gordon loved Harness Racing and horses. Besides his wife, Gordon is survived by his children, Thomas McCauley and Linda McCauley Armstrong and her children, Mackenzie and Cameron Armstrong; stepchildren, John (Holly) Anderson and Bill (Wendy) Anderson and their children, Mitchell, Meaghan and Matthew Anderson; stepchildren; Jeff (Kathy) Russell, Cynthia (John) Cudmore and Elizabeth MacDonnell, and their children, Zoe, Jacob and Nathan Russell and Lauren Cudmore; brother, Murray McCauley as well as several nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his first wife, Vera McCutcheon and his second wife, Willena Anderson; brother, William McCauley and sister-in-law, Audrey McCauley. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from Central Norton United Baptist Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date.
