Obituary of Carmelita A. Gormley

Gormley, Carmelita “Carm” A. … It is with deep sorrow we announce the death of Carm Gormley, wife and best friend of Joseph “Archie” Gormley of Smythe Street, (formerly Mount Pleasant Avenue), Saint John occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2008. She was born in Saint John on July 23, 1920 to the late James and Catherine (Werner) Daley. In her younger years Carm worked at Bardsley’s Hats and F.W. Daniels. She was a warm and extremely giving person, working tirelessly for the CWL and other church organizations. Carm loved to sing especially with the “Kids” in the Cathedral Choir and was a member of the Holy Trinity Choir and Interparochial Choirs. She loved quilting, sewing, knitting and was always ready for a game of cards. Her “party” sandwiches and fudge will not soon be forgotten. Above all else, Carm loved her family who were always paramount in her mind. She spent 59 wonderful years with Joe and rejoiced in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons: John (Nancy) of Quispamsis, NB, Kevin (Linda) of Saint John, NB and David (Patti) of Guelph, ON; three daughters: Suzanne O’Leary (Paul) of Saint John, NB, Jane Perkyns (John) of Houston, TX and Frances Gormley of Kitchener, ON; one brother James Daley of Fredericton, NB; three sisters: Marjorie Murphy (Bud), Josephine Murphy (Louis) and Gertrude McCann (Gerald) all of Saint John, NB; seven grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Daley; two sisters: Sister Dorothy Daley SOS and Ursula O’Leary and grandson Anthony “Amp” Gormley. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB with visitation on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 12 noon. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
