Obituary of Terrance Douglas Meehan

Meehan, Terrance Douglas "Doug" - 40, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his family and friends around him. After a bitter battle with leukemia, he gave up his fight and went home to be with the Lord, to the sound of his daughter playing the guitar. Born in Saint John, NB on August 12, 1968, he was a loving husband to Andrea (Henderson) and proud father to Kaysie, Brady and Sydnie. Doug is survived by his loving parents, Linda Meehan (Rick Lavigne) and Terry Meehan (Betty); grandmothers, Doris Sullivan and Elsie Meehan; a sister, Jennifer Mannett; nephew, Alex; and niece, Aryanna. He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Allan Sullivan and Albert Meehan. Doug graduated from Holland College as a Commercial Diver and got his dream job with Irving Cannaport (offshore) at the age of 36. Doug loved to entertain with his guitar and beautiful voice. He passed his talent on to his daughters and often played for them while they sang. They made him proud. He loved hunting and filming moose and deer, one of his passions in life. Doug knew all of his nurses by name, from 5A South, 3B North and from Oncology. He would tease them with his natural charm and they would tease him right back. Dr. Smith, Dr. Dolan, Dr. Wildish and all the nurses treated Doug with so much compassion and they cannot be thanked enough. Doug was a respected man with many friends–too many to mention. He will be sadly missed by all those that love him, but we will be with him again in Heaven. “Here I go–turn the page.” Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). The visitation for Doug will be held at the First St. Martin’s United Baptist Church on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held there on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2 pm. Interment will take place in the St. Martin’s Community Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish remembrances of Doug may be made to Romero house or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
