Obituary of Lloyd J. Hosford

The death of Lloyd J. Hosford of Rothesay, husband of Gloria Foley-Hosford, and the late Marion (Porter) Hosford, occurred unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Lloyd was born at Ship Harbour, NS, and was a son of the late Arthur and Alexia (Blakeney) Hosford. He spent the greater part of his life in the Saint John area and was employed for 33 years with the Saint John Police Force, retiring as Traffic Inspector. Lloyd had been active with the Saint John Policemen’s Protective Association and various police unions, both with the city and provincially. He was a member of the Rothesay Regional Police Commission. He was the former deputy mayor of the village of Renforth. Lloyd started the Renforth Ice Fishing Association. He was a member of Kennebecasis Valley Crime Stoppers, the Kennebecasis Valley Rotary Club, and was Past President of the City of Saint John Retirees Association. Lloyd was an avid sportsman, having enjoyed softball and ice fishing. As well as his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Robertson of Saint John, two brothers; Roy Hosford (Nora) of Martinon, and William (Bill) Hosford (Juanita) of Saint John East, one sister; Alice LeBlanc (Herb) of Rothesay, two grand daughters; Amy and Tabitha, as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at St. Ann’s Church on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held in the church hall. For those who wish, remembrances to Hospice of Saint John (Bobbies House) would be appreciated by the family.
