Obituary of Helen Dorothy Folkins

Helen Dorothy Folkins of Saint John, wife of the late Earl Folkins, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on April 24, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Gladys (MacDonald) Hopey. Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who was formerly a member of Portland United Church. During her working years, Helen was employed at MRA, Maritime Gardens, and Reitmans Department Store. She had lived for 62 years in the same residence. Helen is survived by her loving sons, Earle (Diane) of Mississauga, Ontario, Peter (Cathy) of Willow Grove, Robert (Maureen) of Quispamsis, and Andrew (Jo-Ann) of Saint John; grandchildren Tim (Goretti), Traci, Tobi, Erin (Shaun), Jill, and Jeff; great grandchildren Jacob, Noah, and Hannah; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Helen was predeceased by brothers Theodore (Twitch), Joseph, and George; and by sisters Frances Causey, Ann Hopey, and Etta Jean O’Connell. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 AM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
