Obituary of David Likely Johnston

The death of David Likely Johnston of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, husband of the late Miriam (Blake) Johnston occurred on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born at Saint John, a son of the late Gordon and Jessie (Likely) Johnston. David worked as a Manufacturer’s Agent with David Johnston Agencies Ltd. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the Canadian Armed Forces Artillery Division. He was a former member of the Parrtown Club, the Westfield Golf and Country Club, the Maritime Senior Golf Association, the Union Club, and the United Commercial Travellers. An avid fisherman, David was a member of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, the Miramichi Fish and Game Club, and was an Honorary Member of the Moss Glen Fishing Club, and an Honourary Director of the Miramichi Salmon Association. A life-long Anglican, David was involved with both St. James’ Anglican Church, Westfield, and St. John’s (Stone) Church, Saint John. David is survived by his two daughters: Anna (Bob) Healy of Halifax, NS and Elma (Tom) McKay of Grand Bay-Westfield; one son, Frank (Leslie) Johnston of Saint John; one sister, Dorothy Stewart of London, ON; eight grandchildren, Robert (Becky) Healy of Halifax, Matthew (Christina) Healy of Dartmouth, Jacqueline Healy Casey (Sean) of Halifax, Emily, John, and Sam McKay, all of Saint John, Laura and Blake Johnston of Saint John; three great grandchildren, Paige Casey, Hannah Casey, and Robert Sutton Healy, all of Halifax. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Frank Johnston. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John on Saturday at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the CNIB or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
