Obituary of Paul D. Smith

Paul D. Smith of Grand Bay … Westfield, husband of Sandra Smith, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on August 25, 1944, he was the son of the late Eric and Patricia (Cormie) Smith. Paul formerly owned and operated the Westfield Esso and later worked part time at the Grand Bay Home Hardware. He was a former volunteer with the Westfield Fire Department. He played softball with Gimby’s Esso and the Grand Bay Home Hardware Kings. The joy of Paul’s life were his sons, Jeff & Tim; and his grandchildren Tyler and Jessica. He loved to follow all their interests including their involvement in minor hockey. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Michelle) of Grand Bay … Westfield, and Timothy at home; his grandson, Tyler, and granddaughter Jessica; sister-in-law Marilyn Evans; brothers-in-law Jack Evans and Bill Smith; his mother-in-law Audrey Smith; nephew Stephen Evans (Andrea) and their family Jenna, John, and Julia; and a niece Tina Evans (Tim), aunts, uncles & cousins. Paul was predeceased by his father, mother, and son, Jason, in July of 2001. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM from River Valley Wesleyan Church, Grand Bay-Westfield. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Jason Smith Memorial Fund, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
