Obituary of Thelma Mary Mae Blanchard

Thelma Mary Mae Blanchard, formerly of Saint John West, wife of the late J. Aurele Blanchard, passed away peacefully at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home on Sunday, July 14, 2013, in her 100th year. Born in Denmark, Nova Scotia, on May 25, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Daisy (Swan) MacLeod. Thelma was employed as a dietician at the hospital in Bathurst, where she met her husband, and subsequently at the Saint John General Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening, and always had a good meal prepared for her family. Thelma was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she was involved with the Catholic Women’s League. Thelma is survived by her children, John Blanchard (Jane) of Truro, NS, Marc Blanchard (Betty Buchanan) of Quispamsis, and Louise Belyea of Saint John; grandchildren Nathan, Jamie (Lindsay), Amanda (Joel), Julie (Sonny), Joe (Sarah), Jana, Michael (Kirstin), and Matthew (Monica); great grandchildren Alex, Ryan, Willow, Rowan, and Laurel; half brother, Robert MacLeod of Nova Scotia; two nieces and one nephew who were special to her: Diane Shink, Ned MacLeod, and Joan MacLeod. In addition to her husband, Thelma was predeceased by a brother, Carl MacLeod. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425) with visiting on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 12:00 Noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John West. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish remembrances to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
